Adedamola Adeniyi James Ferrell and co. have cemented their new sound as The Welcoming debuts their first release as a complete ensemble. Contrary to Decayed which served as a reflection of sorts from contemporary to progressive rock, this release is a characterization of the unique post-rock/math rock sound that the band has been working on for the last year and a half. I think Neptune slots nicely in the modern-day post-rock milieu as a standout release definitely worth your hard-earned money. Favorite track: Song and Memory.

R. A. Blum Pleasantly surprised by how hard an album based in water can go. Favorite track: The Unknown.

Nick Tuttle It just rocks so damn hard 🥲🥰 Its easy to hear that every detail was deeply cared about by the band. This is a project made with love and rage 🤘

Bitter Air 04:20
Gather all the bodies, 'cause the party's on no time for idle thought He can't have wandered out that far on his own into the great unknown Navigation systems failing Fuel tank empty Desparate landing Bitter air everywhere around me Don't despair — somewhere there will hear me I'm... Neglect the nagging feeling this is going wrong he's been out far too long Give me any indication he's alive and well Refuge from this hell Now the sun retreats from the sky Overwrought on this eventide Bitter air everywhere around me Don't despair — somewhere there will hear me I'm freezing I'm freezing
2.
The Unknown 04:28
There is a quiet savagery under the surface of the sea At the first sign of frailty the sharks will feast upon us as we bleed Standing at the edge, wholly motionless peer into the depths and see their cunning silhouettes Dovetail with the waves, cleverly obscured Waiting till the time is right when bounty is assured We're all just drifting, endlessly Struggling to stay afloat as killers wait below So what is there to gain when we hide from the unknown? Witness the quiet savagery under the surface of the sea At the first sign of frailty the sharks will feast upon us as we bleed Hurricanes and hail; iron turns to rust Water pouring in as we're battered by the gusts Now inch by inch we're sinking further in the ocean as they rise up and encircle us There's an island on the horizon we could swim to But it seems they will be upon us soon Their teeth will tear you limb from limb So band together on this sinking ship Harpoons up, now they're growing near To face the unknown we must kill our fears We're all just drifting, endlessly Struggling to stay afloat as killers wait below So what is there to gain when we hide from the unknown?

Eulogy 04:14
Moving mountains with his voice like he had no other choice Boldly unafraid to feel Such a gifted one, so surreal I just happened to stumble upon something monumental A eulogy long overdue but it's better late than never Day by day Determined not to echo the mistakes his father made (that his father made) A tortured soul endeavoring to fill the hole but we'll never know (yeah we'll never know) Move through life as if he weren't afraid to die Should we be surprised? (Should we be surprised?) Swept up in the undertow of the Mississippi River, and away he goes Never awakening again Inconceivable that this is how it ends Passing like a meteor Legacy lives on evermore I just happened to stumble upon something monumental A eulogy long overdue but it's better late than never

The Incident 01:10
5.
Waterborne, one with nature For centuries, respectful of our neighbors These are our ways A grievous premonition For decades we'll endure the devastation These are their ways Now our islands are erased This earth is where our fathers stood and generations more Older than nations, this was our home The river now runs with our blood united with the toxins All for a profit; what have they done Song and memory, nothing else remains Factories built upstream Mixing poison all throughout the river Lucrative days as our livestock fades away This earth is where our fathers stood and generations more Older than nations, this was our home The river now runs with our blood united with the toxins All for a profit; what have they done A lonesome melody Song and memory, nothing else remains

about

Neptune is a collection of songs thematically linked by water. It's focused yet diverse; mature yet adventurous; technical yet heartfelt.

If Decayed | Remade was an exercise in exploring the possibilities of what The Welcoming could be, Neptune is a solidification of what the band has become.

You will not be bored.
